Job Title: Finance Director

Role Summary: As the Finance Director in a small school district, you will oversee the financial operations, including budget development and management, financial planning and analysis, accounting, and reporting. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with financial regulations, facilitating audits, and effectively managing resources to align with the district's educational goals. Key aspects of the role involve leading the finance team, communicating financial information to stakeholders, and exploring funding opportunities. This role demands a blend of financial expertise, strategic planning, and strong leadership skills to maintain financial health and support the educational mission of the district.

Salary: $60,000 - $85,000

Responsibilities:

Develop and oversee the annual budget.
Monitor budget performance and provide regular financial reports.
Conduct financial analysis and engage in strategic forecasting.
Ensure adherence to accounting standards and financial regulations.
Prepare and present comprehensive financial statements.
Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audit processes.
Allocate resources effectively to align with educational goals.
Identify and secure additional funding opportunities, including grant writing.
Manage district investments and optimize revenue streams.
Handle payroll processing, including tax deposits and reporting.
Prepare and submit payroll tax reports and 1099 forms.
Oversee Federal and state grant reporting.
Fulfill human resources responsibilities, including HR state reporting.
Manage CDE40 reporting (Colorado Department of Education specific reporting).
Communicate financial matters effectively with the school board, staff, and community.
Build and maintain relationships with financial agencies and stakeholders.
Lead and provide guidance to the finance department staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA) or CPA preferred.
Extensive experience in financial management, with experience in Colorado public education finance.
Profound understanding of governmental accounting principles and financial regulations.
Expertise in budget development, financial planning, and analysis.
Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems.
Strong analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
Leadership abilities and experience in managing teams.
Familiarity with Colorado's educational funding structures and reporting requirements.
Must pass a Background and Criminal Justice Fingerprint Check.
