Summary/Objective:
This Rate Specialist position is primarily responsible for evaluating, interpreting, and entering client freight rate information into several computer programs and investigating discrepancies, rating, auditing, and reviewing claims..

Essential Functions:

Read, evaluate, understand, and interpret basic freight rate contracts.
Comprehend carrier pricing, rules tariff, contract rates, and NMFC/Commodity identification for true cost of items shipped.
Have knowledge of standards, rate orders, and classification rating guides to enter necessary rate information into our proprietary rate system.
Verify freight rates against actual bills once entered for accuracy.
Work directly other departments to obtain clarification when necessary.
Efficiently use our proprietary task-tracking tool.
Research contract discrepancies against freight bills.
Work directly with carriers and clients to obtain clarification when necessary.
Communicate with internal staff and customers via phone, email, and in person.
Assists team members and performs other incidental and related duties are required and assigned.

Knowledge:

Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field, or 1-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
Proficient in 10-key by touch
Experience in customer service environment
Working knowledge of transportation industry, specifically commercial tariffs, transportation methods, and freight industry terminology

Effort:

This position participates on a team of rate specialists and requires backing up other rate specialists and assisting with workload as needed

Working Conditions:

Work Environment – This job operates in a clerical, open office setting with cubicles. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional work in a home based office with management approval.
Work Hours – This is a full time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with a shift between 7:00am and 5:00pm. Some flexibility in hours is available. Occasional evening and weekend overtime work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel Requirements – Some travel may be expected to key customers. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.
