General Description of the Role
The Educational Audiologist administers and interprets hearing evaluations, amplification needs, and appropriate communication access for students with hearing differences in a school setting, working with the educational team and care providers.
Qualifications Required
Education: Doctoral degree
Licensure: Educational Audiologist
Qualifications Preferred
One year of educational audiology experience
Two years of pediatrics/educational audiology experience
Supervisor: District Director of Special Education
Contract Days: 186 days

Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job
Monitoring and Rehabilitation
- Perform appropriate hearing screenings, including pure tone audiometry, immittance measurements, and/or otoacoustic emissions
- Conduct threshold audiometry, including air conduction, bone conduction, speech testing, otoscopy, otoacoustic emissions and/or immittance measurements
- Conduct auditory processing disorder assessments
- Perform appropriate medical and educational follow up and referral procedures
- Evaluate necessity of remote microphone systems and other Assistive Listening Devices
- Interpret other medical/educational assessments for parents and teachers, when applicable
- Participate in team management within IEP and 504 plan teams, assist in determining disability, formulate educational recommendations, and participate in developing goals and objectives when appropriate
- Maintain records for IEP/504 plan, screenings, referrals, follow up, and planning services
- Select and maintain audiological equipment
Management and Support
- Perform case management and care coordination with family, school, medical, and community services
- Consult and collaborate with teachers and other staff regarding the impact of hearing loss on education and social skills
- Provide advocacy regarding hearing loss and its implications
- Provide staff in-services regarding students hearing loss, remote microphone systems and personal amplification
- Provide information/in-services regarding hearing conservation and the effects of hearing loss due to noise
- Consult with school health nurses/clerks regarding hearing screenings
- Keep abreast of local, state, and federal regulations and policies for audiology services for children birth to age two
