Legacy Preparatory Charter Academy is seeking a variety of Summer School Teachers, including Certified teachers, retired teachers, uncertified tutors, and college students with a passion for supporting and teaching youth.
Position Summary: The summer school teacher will provide accelerated instruction for pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students to develop their math and literacy skills. The Summer School Teacher will use research-based interventions and accelerated strategies following the Texas Knowledge and Skills Standards as guided by their content coach. Summer School Teachers will conduct regular short assessments to ensure the students are on track to meet and/or exceed grade-level expectancy. Training will be provided. This role is grant-funded and will continue contingent upon funding.
Education Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
● College Degree from an accredited university is preferred
● Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the subject and level assigned preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
● Knowledge of core academic subject assigned preferred
● General knowledge of curriculum and instruction preferred
● Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
● Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
● Experience with individual/small group instruction preferred
Essential Functions:
- Instruction and Assessment ○ Conduct small group tutoring sessions with students using research-based literacy and math materials.
- Assist students in improving their math and reading skills and abilities to reach grade-level expectations.
- Act on feedback and coaching from instructional coaches, specialists, and program leaders.
- Assess, with a high level of accuracy, students’ continual progress through progress monitoring and benchmarking.
- Document students’ weekly progress scores, time, and interventions using the provided database or resources.
- Regularly review student data with instructional coaches and specialists to gauge the effectiveness ofthe intervention and determine whether a change in the students's needs is merited.
- Summer School Teachers must attend all required training as communicated by LPCA.
- Conform to regular, timely attendance requirements at the assigned campus tutoring site.
Communication
- Communicate with students in age and developmentally-appropriate ways.
- Professionally communicate with instructional Coaches, Specialists, Principals, Directors, and school staff regarding students' schedules, Accelerated Instruction tutoring intervention,ands progress.
- Act on constructive feedback provided by Instructional Coaches, Specialists, and Program Lead.
- Build professional relationships with school staff, Instructional Coaches, Specialists, and Program Lead.
- Fulfill program requirements and daily read and respond to email communications to all stakeholders. ○ Ensureconfidentiality of student records, and test scores. ○ Adhere to all policies regarding professional conduct and appropriate use of technology
