Position Overview: As a key member of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team the DFM Engineer will utlize their expertise in Valor NPI DFM analysis complemented by a deep understanding of how PCBAs are assembled, inspected and tested to function as the subject matter expert for PCBA Design for Manufacturability.
Duties:

Review customer PCBA designs and provide recommendations on manufacturability improvements

Use Valor NPI to run SMTC design rules on PCBA designs at the detail level
-
Generate DFM reports in SMTC standard format
-
Communicate report findings to Factory Customer Focus Teams (CFTs) in preparation for NPI builds

Communicate report findings to customers to effect design changes where possible
-
Support pre-sales activity by generating DFM ideas to be included with customer proposals/bids
-
Periodically correlate DFM report findings with factory defect reports and update SMTC DFM guidelines accordingly.

Work with Factory CFTs to implement and optimize manufacturing 1st pass yields and efficiency from prototype through product ramp

Support Factory CFT quality improvement, cost reduction and sustaining activities

Travel to suppliers and customers as required.

Must be an ITAR Compliant US Person.

Education and Experience for the DFM Engineer:
-
Has 3+ years’ experience doing DFM analysis with Valor NPI
-
Process engineering experience in the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) industry in high-reliability contract manufacturing a plus.

PCB design experience a plus.
-
Experience with assembly jig and fixture design for part fabrication and assembling a plus.

Familiar with standard PCBA build documentation and files
-
Understands Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Test (DFT) and PCB fabrication processes

Awareness of PCB design challenges including high speed, high impedance and high voltage layout
-
Reflective and inventive - knowing the limitations of the DFM process, and have ideas to improve it
-
Must have excellent problem solving skills and possess good analytical, verbal and written communication skills
-
Must demonstrate flexibility, self-direction, and self-discipline to plan and accomplish objectives and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
