Our organization is currently seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Controller to support all aspects of our accounting operations. The Assistant Controller will work primarily with our CFO and CEO to ensure complete and accurate reporting. Familiarity with NYC multifamily real estate a must.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the day-to-day operational needs, including cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax, expense management, vendor management, and biweekly payroll processes
- Manage all monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including account reconciliations, accrual schedules, and journal entries, ensuring that books are closed timely, and reconciliations performed accurately and on time
- Oversee external financial reporting and ensure all reporting meets required deadlines and conforms to the generally accepted accounting principles as well as other external reporting requirements
- Prepare DHCR registrations, RPIEs, Certiorari submissions
- Enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency
- Streamline, maintain and improve processes and internal controls and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Responsible for various external audit preparation and oversight
- Assist the CFO and Executive Team with continuous review of actual spend against budget
- Support ongoing cash flow forecasting efforts in collaboration with CFO
- Document, monitor and update accounting policies
- Ensure all billing and payments are completed timely (including accounts receivable, accounts payable and bank deposits)
- Review quarterly and annual budgets
- Analyze costs and profits
- Report on the financial status on a regular basis and create ad-hoc reports when needed
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems
- Perform internal audits and assist with external audits
- Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations
Skills
- Work experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Experience with cash management and risk assessment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of BJ Murray Accounting Software a plus
- Attention to detail
- Excellent working skills with Excel
- BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred
