Michigan Cream and Sugar Ice Cream Company is a collaboration of HORIZONS Conference Center, Michigan Sugar Company and the Michigan Milk Producers Association. Founded in 2019, our scoop shop in Uptown Bay City serves up hand-crafted ice cream featuring the freshest and highest-quality locally sourced ingredients we can find – and every scoop of ice cream we sell benefits Michigan farm families. Michigan Cream & Sugar is looking for a team mamber to learn our production system. This is a key role within our company that has room for growth for those who demonstrate consistent success in the position. The successfulice cream maker will be self-motivated, self-disciplined, organized and extremely detailed oriented. They will be passionate about working hard to produce a delicious product and must be unwilling to settle for anything less than the best quality ice cream.

Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to work shifts of 10 hours or more.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions without variance.
- Strong organization and cleaning skills.
- Position requires extended periods of physical activity, including long periods of physical exertion often in freezer temperatures. This will include repeated lifting and stacking.
- Possess a working knowledge of spreadsheets as well as calculating decimals and percentages.
- Must be able to form good working relationships with all staff.
- Demonstrated history of dependability and reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the following equipment, efficiently and as directed: Batch freezer, steam kettle, pasteurizer, blast chiller, convection oven, stand mixer, immersion blender, hand mixer, digital labeling machine, range or induction top, blender.
- Lift up to 30 pound buckets and pour them into a small opening without spilling.
- Lift 50 pound cases of product repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Walk long distances to retrieve necessary products as needed.
- Lift and retrieve heavy objects from high shelves.
- Pour large quantities of very hot liquid.
- Work in the freezer for long periods of time organizing and stacking heavy items.
- Manually cut sheets of product into consistent shapes and sizes.
- Measure powders and liquids to specified gram quantities using a digital scale.
- Prepare and bake cakes and cookie crumble, temper and cut chocolate, cook berry compote, caramelize sugar, make fudge, caramel, brittle and other variegates.
- Prepare and print production par lists from a spreadsheet on a laptop.
- Use ratios to determine liquid portion quantities.
- Accurately count quantity on hand as directed and convert between quarts, pints, and gallons.
- Work closely in confined spaces with multiple coworkers.
- Portion ice cream into packaging neatly and efficiently.
- Prioritize and finish production tasks as needed to meet sales demand.
- Discard product that does not meet standards.
- Work clean and put away all product and equipment when each task is complete.
- Use best practices as instructed to maintain cleanliness.
- Wash and sanitize all dishes and clean up all spills.
- Take out trash.
