Shop Manager Job Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Shop Manager to join our team. The Shop Manager will report directly to the Owner(s) and will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our service department. The Shop Manager will be responsible for managing a team of technicians and ensuring that all customer service needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Owns customer communication & service, tech assignment, tech hiring/reviews/correction
- Manage a team of technicians and ensure that all customer service needs are met
- Own diagnostics & tech training. Assist with tech assignment & hiring
- Own advanced mechanic activities. Assist with diagnostics
- Owns basic mechanic activities. Assist with advanced mechanic activities and shop cleanliness
CUSTOMER SERVICE (45%)
o Ensure customer satisfaction that upholds the mission of the company
o Schedules customer work & ensures sufficient workload to meet needs of company
o Provides excellent communication to customers on status of jobs & work/costs incurred
TECH TEAM MANAGEMENT (35%)
o Assign jobs to techs, run the morning tech meetings, give expectations of job completion
o Daily check-ins with Owner regarding status of jobs & to get estimate approvals, etc.
o Maintain and increase technician/shop efficiencies
o Work with lead tech/owner to create assignments for techs on daily basis.
o Responsible for maintaining tech skills through training and intervention.
o Resolve any staffing or personnel issues with tech team.
o Assists in the hiring/reviews/correction process
FINALIZED BILLING (20%)
o Determine final billing of customer invoices based on inputs and estimates.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in a service management role
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage a team of technicians and ensure that all customer service needs are met
- Knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment is a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
