Diesel Technician/Mechanic
Knauz Continental Autos’ Sprinter Business is growing! Chicago’s Northshore Sprinter Dealer has an immediate opening for both an experienced Mercedes-Benz Certified Diesel Technician and also for an entry level technician to join our team. A Diesel Service Technician, inspects, diagnoses and repairs diesel-powered vehicles, Mercedes Sprinters, Metris, and RV's on Sprinter chassis. Their main duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, performing recalls, maintenance and inspection items, and test driving the vehicle to determine if they properly fixed the maintenance issue.
Diesel Service Technician duties and responsibilities
Diesel Service Technicians collaborate with other repair team members to ensure a vehicle is safely and efficiently operating to the driver’s needs. They often have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Consulting with the Service Advisor and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required
- Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues
- Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions
- Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts
- Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated parts
- Performing maintenance on vehicles, ie: oil change, brake flush, replacement of filters, tire rotations, and alignments.
- Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Ability to learn new technology, repair and service procedures and specifications
- Able to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
