PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To operate semi-cab trucks to transport and deliver high school band equipment to a variety of locations throughout the school year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a valid commercial driver's license (Class A CDL)
- Minimum of 5 years of Class A CDL driving Experience
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
· Ability to operate a semi-truck
· Ability to complete required driver safety training
· Professional radio communication skills
· Ability to read and understand documents, including policies and procedures manuals
· Ability to read maps/interpret directions for the assigned route
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
· Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
· Knowledge of Federal and State CDL driving regulations
· Meet State DOT physical fitness requirements
· Basic knowledge of the mechanical aspects of the specific vehicle driven, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Communicate with band directors, school administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth travel logistics.
2. Have a flexible schedule and be available for extended trips, especially during the band's performance season.
3. Drive a bus as needed, following assigned routes and adhering to established schedules.
4. Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
5. Follow assigned routes as directed.
6. Perform pre-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure safe operation.
7. Display professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff, and the community.
8. Approach problem-solving tactfully with directness and integrity.
9. Exert a positive influence and work in harmony with associates.
10. Respond to suggestions for improvement in a positive manner.
11. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problems.
12. Maintain a professional appearance.
13. Be mentally and physically able to perform job functions.
14. Manifest support for and compliance with Garland ISD's philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures.
15. Follow district policies pertaining to the individual assignment.
16. Seek professional growth through continuing education and staff development.
17. Be consistent in route departure/arrival times at designated bus stops.
18. Exercise responsible leadership when transporting school children.
20. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
21. Keep the assigned bus clean at all times.
22. Perform all other duties as assigned.
