Job description
The Genetics Reporting Specialist will report to the Reporting Team Manager and will also work closely with the Director of Genetic Clinical Services and the Genetics Team (to include bioinformatics specialists and scientists) to prepare final genetics testing reports that will be sent to clients. The Genetics Reporting Specialist must consistently produce client-ready documents in accordance with company and client standards. This is a HYBRID/REMOTE position.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verifies patient demographics / client information for accuracy
- Maintain confidential information per HIPAA protocol
- Reconcile genetic variant data and other pertinent reporting data for accuracy between the LIS (laboratory information system) and genetic databases (Microsoft Excel), which are updated and maintained by the Genetics/Bioinformatics Team
- Understand and apply different reporting protocols for various genetic test types and produce accurate and thorough reports based on varying client requirements
- Work closely with the Reporting Department Manager and Genetics/Bioinformatics Team to resolve any discrepancies, obtain missing information or clarify details
- Other Genetics Department administrative tasks as necessary

- Excellent attention to detail with good visual acuity to proofread reports with ability to detect discrepancies, missing information or errors
- Data entry skills with high accuracy and precision with excellent typing speed

- Ability to multitask and work in a very busy and fast-paced environment and consistently meet tight deadlines
- Demonstrates good judgment and common sense on resolving problems, excellent critical thinking skills
- A self-starter and can work independently with minimal supervision
- Good finger dexterity to prepare reports, excellent typing skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology
- Excellent command of the English language, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Proficient and well versed with Microsoft Windows and must possess excellent computer skills and understanding of basic computer software
- Proficient and well versed with Microsoft Suite software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneDrive, Sharepoint – desktop and Web versions)
- Proficient and well versed with navigating and searching the internet (Firefox and/or Chrome browser) and medical researching skills
- Possess excellent and professional communication skills
- Ability to develop a good rapport with Genetics Department staff and Bioinformatics scientists and specialists to produce prompt, accurate reports within very strict time restraints and also resolve problems or discrepancies when they arise
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred but not required
- Previous medical transcription experience and Pathology transcription a huge plus
- Ability to commute to the main laboratory in Buffalo Grove, IL when required for meetings and training. Position is remote but must have ability to drive to the Buffalo Grove, IL laboratory when needed

Experience:
- Medical Transcriptionists: 5 years (Preferred)
