Job Description
Under minimal supervision, the quality specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality control for the production facility. This position is responsible for developing internal standards and carrying out a variety of quality functions to support production.
Responsibilities:
- Develop processes, create documentation, and devise quality criteria, verifications and standards.
- Lead quality inspections and testing to ensure quality criteria conformance.
- Conduct first article and incoming inspections and documentation of pre-pilot, pilot and production product processes.
- Proactively investigate, identify, and implement improved quality practices.
- Perform root cause analysis on non-conforming items and develop methods to resolve.
- Identify and implement quality system improvements when gaps are identified.
- Conduct audit testing and address quality issues in a standard machine shop/fabrication environment.
- Evaluation of non-conforming parts and assist in determining an appropriate disposition.
- Assist in supplier qualifications and new product development.
- Provide accurate, clear, and immediate feedback to the operations teams and managers.
- Partners with procurement to ensure quality of materials and services used in manufacturing products are met,
- Develop and oversee quality training programs for all personnel. Including, but not limited to, quality policy and procedures, inspections plans and methods, process variation, root cause analysis, problem solving, etc.
- Develop methods and plans for evaluating quality training effectiveness.
- Prepares and presents quality performance reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant STEM field (technology, engineering, quality) required.
- 5+ years’ experience and the ability to demonstrate competency in quality management systems for both quality and lean practices.
- Demonstrable experience developing, improving, implementing, and maintaining quality in a manufacturing environment required.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (sheet metal fab, machining, welding, assembly, etc)
- Experience in reading, understanding, and verifying bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, engineering tolerances, and other technical information.
- Motivated, goal-oriented leader with proven track record of leading teams to the achievement of quality improvement objectives and change management initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills used to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, customer, suppliers, and third-party representatives.
- Hands-on problem solver with a willingness to drive continuous improvement.
- Possesses the ability to coach, mentor and foster others.
- Must be a team player and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of associates up to and including Senior Management.
Preferred:
- Certification by the American Society of Quality (ASQ) or as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE).
Computer Skills
- MS Office suite.
- ERP system experience (such as JDE or SAP).
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
The work environment is representative of those in both a standard manufacturing office environment and a standard machine shop/fabrication environment. Site's environment typical exposure could include the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; bend; kneel; crouch (bend at knees); stoop; crawl; balance; walk; use hand/fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; repetitive motion; reach with hands and arms; reach above/below shoulder; reach to floor; lift from arm level: turn head sideways, up and down; good eye/hand/foot dexterity; climb ladders/stairs; and talk or hear.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
