The Night Dispatcher position is responsible for the oversight of dispatch operations in the evenings. The areas of responsibility include but are not limited to dispatch, safety, maintenance, customer communication, company systems, processes and procedures. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, independent thinking and superior communications ability. Knowledge of Hours of Service is required.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all communication with independent contractors, after-hours customers, maintenance vendors.
- Efficiently resolve any problems related to deliveries, equipment, and more through trouble tickets, phone calls, or emails. Keep after-hours customers informed about updates, including any delays or rescheduling that may occur.
- Complete Order Tracking Report daily.
- Responsible for understanding the scheduling practices and how to add driver rates in the system.
- Monitor yard reports for per diem containers or missed deliveries and communicate with dispatchers and customer service to terminate per diem cost or reschedule the missed delivery.
- Responsible for returning equipment to the correct location in a timely manner.
- Cross-train with dispatchers to cover workload distribution in the event a dispatcher is not able to finish the pre-dispatch process during business hours.
- Monitor and oversee driver’s logs to ensure we are compliant with dispatching to the appropriate drivers.
- Maintain an understanding of the FMCSA Hours of Service Regulations and keep abreast of any modifications or updates that occur.
- Coordinate daily with dispatchers to ensure capacity and customer commitments align with available hours of service.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Maintenance Repair System and keep abreast of any changes or updates that occur.
- Dispatch tire, mechanical, and towing service as required through utilizing approved vendor list.
- Assign appropriate vendor based on equipment owner and type of repair needed.
- Provide excellent customer service while speaking with internal/external customers and vendors.
- Ensure all current information is input into the repair order in the Safety System.
- Identify and escalate priority issues and route calls to appropriate resource.
- Have knowledge of minor and major mechanical repairs and follow proper escalation channel.
- Update dispatch and CSR’s as needed on time-sensitive repairs.
- Keep additional cost to a minimum on SSL equipment by contacting steamship approved direct bill vendors.
- Responsible for completing any task that may be assigned to service our drivers and customers at the highest level.
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess professional communication, organizational, problem resolution, & writing skills
- Must be a self-starter and willing to work with minimal supervision
- Must be computer literate with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Logistics and Intermodal experience preferred
- Ability to work evenings
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be dependable
- Previous Transportation experience preferred
