Who We Are:
Wildlife Learning Center (WLC) is located in Sylmar, California, nestled in an old olive grove. WLC was founded to provide public education in the life sciences, conservation, and the environment. WLC is dedicated to providing life-long care to animals in need, where about 100 displaced, rescued, and zoo-born wild animals call this shady, natural environment home. WLC has 15 staff biologists who have a passion for wildlife and environmental education that gives people of all ages an interactive experience with nature.
Our mission is to provide sanctuary for animals in need, collaborate with other institutions for species conservation by participating in Species Survival Plans, and offer education programs that inspire the public to care for our wildlife, to care for our environment, and to teach and inspire a greater interest in the life sciences.

Wildlife Learning Center is seeking to hire an outgoing, energetic, and hard working individual to operate our admissions and gift shop.
Our environment is fast-paced and often extremely busy. Applicants must possess the ability to multi-task during busy situations, prioritize, and accomplish tasks in a timely and efficient manner. It is of the utmost importance to be courteous and polite with all guests. Applicants must possess a confident, friendly phone voice and the ability to deal with unexpected issues that may arise. A basic knowledge of animals and the Los Angeles area is helpful.
The admissions and gift shop attendant has the responsibility of being the first and last impression for guests. Therefore, a friendly nature and excellent customer service skills are required.
Applicants must be clean cut and neatly groomed without visible tattoos and body piercing. Applicants to have a valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and insurance.
Required tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Greet all visitors upon entering WLC
- Handle cash and credit card transactions utilizing a point-of-sale (POS) system
- Answer telephone calls with a friendly greeting
- Answer questions and provide guests with helpful information
· Serve guests in a prompt and courteous manner
- Handle complaints effectively with patience and understanding
- Check in school visitors and other groups
- Close out tabs for groups, birthday parties, etc.
- Maintain the gift shop and appropriate facilities in a clean, organized, and presentable manner
- Maintain the outside of the gift shop (porch, potted plants, etc.)
- Restock shelves
- Ensure inventory levels are stocked in the store and communicate needs to manager for ordering
- Anticipate seasonal fluctuations of merchandise
- Assist in reordering merchandise
- Fulfill mail orders
- Post price changes
- Assist in deliveries from vendors
- Engage in WLC’s mission and vision
- Be punctual and professional
- Maintain a high standard of work ethics
- Maintain a positive working environment
- Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, and some holidays
- Assist in marketing events, social media, promotions, and merchandise by adhering to advertising, sales promotion, and displays
· Maintain the highest level of guest-friendly customer service at all times
· Other duties as assigned
The admissions and gift shop attendants provide a welcoming service for guests entering WLC and a memorable experience for guests when leaving.
Position requirements:
· At least one year of retail experience
· Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
· Must be able to understand and communicate with customers, including dealing with complaints
· 18 years of age or older
· Able to lift 50 pounds
· Possess a valid California driver’s license
Strong Computer Skills Required:
Typing, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF forms and creation, the ability to operate a MAC
Hours: Full-time
Pay: The position starts at $17.00/hour
