About the role:
The Staff Accountant position is a full-time, 100% remote role and a key member of the Finance team. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all pertinent state and federal regulations governing the insurance industry for Topa Insurance and its affiliated companies, as well as adherence to NAIC and state Department of Insurance regulatory reporting requirements.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the proper recording of financial transactions. This involves verifying the accuracy of entries in ledger accounts and reconciling subsidiary ledger accounts with the general ledger.
The Staff Accountant compiles financial data to support the preparation of complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. They also contribute to the analysis of current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and incurred obligations to forecast future revenues and expenses.
The Staff Accountant participates in the implementation of internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
We carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for this position is $72,900.00 annually and the maximum salary for this position is $98,700.00 annually.
What you will do:

Maintain compliance with all NAIC and state department of insurance regulatory reporting requirements.

Act as a liaison with regulatory insurance departments, responds to inquiries and requests for information.

Assist with the statutory financial statements audit, GAAP audits and statutory examinations.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP and Statutory financial statements and filings.

Review the monthly transactions created by the investment and reinsurance areas.

Prepare monthly account reconciliations of all assigned balance sheet accounts.

Prepare and file premium tax returns and related reports with regulatory authorities.

Calculate premium tax liabilities based on premium volume, policy type, jurisdiction, and other relevant factors.

Assist with the statutory Quarterly Statements and the Annual Statement, as well as the audited statutory financial statements.
What you will need:

A four (4) year degree in accounting or business

1-3 years of demonstrated accounting knowledge in a regulatory and GAAP environment.

Insurance Accounting experience preferred.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, GL software, and Database management software.
