Summary: Under the general supervisor of the Animal Rescue Manger, the Ranch-Stable Hand is responsible for watering, feeding, cleaning stalls, and overseeing various horses and livestock, and providing routine grounds keeping services at four ranch locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Feed Ranch Animals at all four ranches on scheduled days. Ensure horses and livestock receive appropriate hay, supplemental grains and daily medications.
Willing to work at least Saturday or Sunday, or both.
Clean stalls, pens and shelters daily.
Cleaning and maintenance of stalls, loafing sheds, paddocks at Pierce and Wooden Ranch twice a week.
- Seasonal cleaning on large shelters, pastures and large paddocks.
- Clean all water buckets/troughs and feeders as necessary to ensure animals have clean safe drinking water and feed at all times.
- Maintain clean, clear, raked breezeways, feed room and hay storage areas.
- Fill feed grain storage and move hay in front of animal stalls as appropriate.
- Load hay and feed pasture horses and other livestock daily or as assigned by a supervisor.
Keep barns and stalls clean of cobwebs and other debris.
- Mow and weed eat smaller irrigated paddocks on all ranches as necessary.
- Ensure sprinklers are working properly and repair as necessary.
- Maintain weed control in and around barns, outbuilding, pens and fences, both through manual removal, spray or weedeater/mower.
- Seasonal pasture mowing in order to control foxtail and other noxious weeds.
- Work with maintenance team to repair fences around pastures and barns when necessary.
- Conducts emergency fence repair, water line repairs and other miscellaneous minor facility repairs as needed.
- Able to safely operate/drive tractors, mowers and other ranch equipment.
- Able to perform routine service, and cleaning maintenance of tractors, gators and other equipment.
- Able to safely use ranch tools and equipment.
- Regular and predicable attendance is required.
Ability to get along with and work effectively with others.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Ability to lift and move hay bales, feed bags, panels, and other heavy objects safely into utility vehicles, trailers and feed bins both by hand and with appropriate equipment.
- Able to stand, bend, crouch and kneel for extended periods of time.
- Provide humane pest control in the forms of sprays and manual removal of nests (birds, rodents and stinging insects) and manure (flies).
- Occasional removal of tree limbs and other pasture debris.
- Assist landscape/maintenance team as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory duties.
