The Embryologist will work closely with the Laboratory Director and participate in the daily operation of the human IVF and andrology laboratories. This position includes 'hands-on' involvement in clinical IVF laboratory work as directed by the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor. This position requires a focus on patient service, maintenance of the highest technical standards and provision of the services and resources necessary to support the physicians and patients. The Embryologist is expected to maintain CLIA and CAP standards regarding quality control/ quality management, procedural guidelines and day-to-day duties of the IVF laboratory. Andrology services required as needed to support patient needs and physician.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Undertake embryology laboratory procedures as directed.
- Complete competency in latest technologies including, but not limited to: trophectoderm biopsy, oocyte vitrification, ICSI, and complex micromanipulation skills.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of reproductive biology including the male and female reproductive system.
- Expertise with the physical handling of oocytes, embryos and semen including hazardous specimens.
- Management of aseptic techniques and competent in the correct assessment and grading of oocyte, embryo and sperm morphology.
- Maintain technical proficiency in routine laboratory procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of routine and ad hoc analyses of data relating to performance of the laboratory and individual technologists and to specific research projects.
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science.
Minimum Experience Required:
3-5 years laboratory experience in embryology lab preferred. Experience with laboratory procedures with an emphasis on sterile technique.
Skills required (if applicable):
Data entry skills to include all Microsoft Office software; excellent verbal/telephone communication skills; excellent written communication skills; ability to work independently and take actions according to existing policies and procedures; and demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of reproductive physiology and embryology to include human in vitro fertilization, blastocyst culture, cryopreservation, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, assisted hatching, blastomere biopsy, embryo transfer, oocyte retrieval.
