Winnetka's Public Works Department is seeking applicants for the temporary full-time position of Laborer. Key responsibilities include: performing unskilled labor in the Streets and Sewer divisions; operating a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water, sanitary sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems.
Primary Duties:
- Perform pavement maintenance, repair, removal, and disposal.
- Perform parkway/roadside maintenance removal of stump cuttings, backfilling, repairing, and seeding disturbed parkway areas.
- Sidewalk removal, replacement, and repairs.
- Brush and bush trimming; mowing roadside vegetation.
- Assist with installing traffic control, street signage, and pavement markings.
- Patch cracks in underground vaults and manholes; brush or spray walls with waterproof compounds.
- Lift, carry, and/or wheel heavy material.
- Read maps, blueprints, and take measurements.
- Provide janitorial services at Village facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- One to three months related experience or training preferred.
- Working knowledge of general public works labor activities.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to read, clearly speak, and legibly write the English language.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Other Requirements
This is a temporary full-time position. Typical work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday. Work is performed in outdoor weather conditions and in close proximity to vehicular traffic.
Hourly rate: $18/hr. - $25/hr., DOQ.
