Sous Chef - Residential Camp - Camp Billings in Fairlee, VT.
Position Summary
Camp Billings is seeking a qualified and passionate Sous Chef. The Sous Chef’s primary responsibility is assist the head chef in the process of preparing, cooking, and plating meals for 275 campers.
The Sous Chef will work in conjunction of Kitchen Manager or Head Chef, operating between 1-3 meals/day.
The season runs from June 9 to August 19, 2024.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Head Chef in preparing meals
- Occasionally take on meal prep responsibilities of Head Chef.
- Maintain a positive and professional child-friendly atmosphere with a sense of mutual respect, both in the kitchen and throughout the camp.
- Prepare delicious meals for ~275 campers and staff with a variety of options for vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free restrictions.
- Effectively work with kitchen staff in conjunction with Kitchen Manager or Head Chef
- Communicate and work with the Kitchen Manager or Head Chef regarding special events and general feedback on the kitchen operation.
- Ensure proper food handling and food safety practices.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and storage areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule
- 5+ days/week -- Days off negotiable
- 1-3 meals/day, 8AM Breakfast, 12PM Lunch, 6PM Dinner
About Camp Billings
Camp Billings is a Vermont-based non-profit organization that provides a traditional overnight camping experience. At 117 years old we are one of the oldest Camp's in New England and some families are in their 5th generation of coming to Billings.
Job Type: Full-time/Part-time, Contract, Temporary/Seasonal
Pay: Based on number of meals worked. Starting pay $700/week at 6-7 meals per week.
Benefits: Food, Housing may be available for full-time sous chefs, dependent on space
Job Requirements
- 2+ years cooking experience.
- Experience working with purchasing food and supplies (preferred).
- Experienced in food sanitation and safety.
- Able to work on feet for the duration of shift.
- Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds. Stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be 21+ years old.
- Must be from the area -- WILL NOT ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM OVERSEAS
