The Assistant Director (AD) supports the Director of the Evett L. Simmons Multicultural Center in organizational, administrative, and program development in furthering the mission and goals of the Multicultural Center, Student Development and Florida Southern College. The AD supervises the work-study students ensuring compliance with campus rules and regulations. Being well-versed and competent in multiculturalism and training the AD provides diversity related training on campus as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Works directly with the Evett Simmons Multicultural Center (Simmons Center) Director and campus organization leaders to plan, organize, promote, and execute all cultural celebration events for the school year.
2. Serves as the lead staff member responsible for coordination of Civic Engagement initiatives on campus, including managing community partnerships for student volunteer opportunities, tracking volunteer hours, and planning and executing volunteer opportunities on- and off- campus for students, including but not limited to Alternative Fall/Spring Break trips, service-focused day/weekend trips, and voter registration drives/opportunities.
3. Aids the Director in the overall support for cultural student organizations, including registration, advisor training, organizational development, onboarding, and training.
4. Co-advises the Multicultural Student Council as directed by the Director.
5. Approves and oversees the implementation of Simmons Center programming including evening and weekend events and space reservations for Student Organizations using the Simmons Center.
6. Supervises the Simmons Center’s Federal Work-Study Student Assistant positions including hiring, training, and scheduling.
7. Provides diversity, equity, and inclusion training to the campus community upon request.
8. Purchases promotional items and office supplies for the Simmons Center.
9. Manages all Simmons Center social media platforms.
10. Guides and supports FSC student organizations in promoting leadership.
11. Assists in facilitating major campus-wide events, including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Blast Off, Southern Takeover, Winter Wonderland, Fraternity/Sorority Recruitment, Frank Lloyd Wright Day, and Fairwell Festival.
12. Serves on the Student Engagement Event Management Rotation.
13. Supports Student Life events, tasks, programs, and initiatives as requested.
14. Contributes to the success of the Simmons Center and the Department of Student Life by performing any additional duties needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Bachelor’s degree required.
2. Higher Education experience preferred.
3. Experience working with undergraduate student organizations in multicultural programming.
4. Experience with diversity related training.
5. Experience working with diverse populations including various levels of an organization.
6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
7. Strong written and oral communication skills.
8. Strong leadership qualities and excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to think creatively.
9. Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
10. Ability to handle highly confidential information with complete discretion.
