JOB TITLE: Accountant / Bookkeeper (Part Time)

JOB SUMMARY: The Accountant / Bookkeeper performs routine duties associated with accounts payable, accounts payable, cash receipts, and general ledger maintenance under the supervision of the Comptroller. This position uses software from SAP Concur to electronically process transactions into our Great Plains accounting system. This position works collaboratively with staff from other departments and organizations to ensure MASB’s accounting activities are done accurately, fairly, and cheerfully.
Essential Duties:
Works under the general guidance of the Comptroller.
Responsible for performing general ledger transactions, including:
- Analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts as requested.
- Routinely performing journal entry documentation and processing.
- Communicating and performing correcting entries as needed.
Assists with cash and cash flow activities, including:
- Reconciling monthly bank accounts.
- Creating deposit tickets and/or making daily deposits.
Assists with accounts receivable functions, including:
- Processing, entering, and applying payments against corresponding billings.
- Assisting with the collection of revenue items, including collection calls.
- Creating and mailing monthly customer statements.
Assists with the account payable functions, including:
- Process invoices submitted to SAP Concur for payment.
- Upload invoice batches into accounting system.
- Processing and mailing checks, as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
2+ years of accounting experience.
Required Competencies/Abilities:
Strong math skills that include working with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Detailed oriented and inquisitive.
Basic computer skills, with an ability to learn firm-specific programs and software.
Friendly and professional demeanor.
Preferred Competencies/Abilities:
Experience working with SAP Concur and Microsoft Great Plains accounting software.
Experience with Dynamics 365 and/or iMIS customer management software.
Self-motivated with a willingness to make progress once the supervisor’s intent is understood.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work will be conducted primarily in an office setting and may include long hours at a computer. Some lifting required (up to 40 lbs.). Salary/Benefits:
This is a part-time hourly position, with compensation commensurate with experience; the preliminary hourly wage range is $16 - $18. This position includes employer contributions into a 401(k) plan upon participation qualification. Regular workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00pm. This position is expected to work 20-25 hours per week, with occasional overtime required. The scheduling of workdays and hours is flexible and MASB allows for up to 50% work-from-home. Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal days. MASB is not part of Michigan’s Public School Employees Retirement System.
