SPAN Parent Advocacy Network - Empowered Families: Educated, Engaged, Effective!
Are you interested in supporting a non-profit group seeking to improve engagement for families of children with disabilities in the special education system?
The SPAN Parent Advocacy Network is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower families and inform and involve professionals and others interested in the healthy development of children throughout New Jersey. SPAN is funded through private contributions and grants from government, foundations, and corporations.
SPAN is seeking a skilled and experienced Staff Trainer to join our team. In this role, you will provide training coordination for parent education and family engagement programs.
This position will cover North Jersey; all applicants must reside in, and have reliable transportation to travel within, one of these counties:
- Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, Warren
The Staff Trainer position is an hourly, non-exempt position, for 15 hours per week. This is a fully-remote position, with frequent travel within New Jersey. This position may require Saturday and Sunday hours. The Staff Trainer is also expected to attend quarterly meetings of SPAN staff, as well as various training conferences. All SPAN staff are also required to complete SPAN’s Resource Parent (SRP) training program.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Train staff, families, and community on program services
- Assist with the dissemination of resources, written materials, and/or digital materials to parents and families
- Develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships
- Prepare and suggest recommendations on instructional materials, teaching, and related activities for partners
- Search out opportunities to educate the public, including but not limited to service groups, businesses, or organizations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Google platform (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Meet), Smartsheet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other software
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to travel throughout central or south New Jersey
- Outstanding communication, training, and organizational skills
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or four years of experience in training and two years of experience in a supervisory capacity; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work well with parents, youth, school administrators and the public.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Ability to communicate with supervisor and co-workers
- Reliable transportation resources throughout New Jersey
- Demonstrated commitment to the goals of the project and organization
