The Diabetic Educator at East Cascade Women's Group plays a pivotal role in providing specialized education and support to pregnant women with diabetes or gestational diabetes, as well as those planning pregnancy who have diabetes. This position involves developing tailored diabetes management plans, delivering individual and group education sessions, and collaborating closely with obstetricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize maternal and fetal health outcomes.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Practitioner
- Certification as a Diabetes Educator (CDE) or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification.
- Clinical experience working with pregnant women with diabetes or gestational diabetes preferred.
- Strong understanding of diabetes management principles, including insulin therapy, carbohydrate counting, and monitoring fetal well-being.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively educate and support pregnant women from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of obstetric and perinatal care principles and practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of pregnant women with diabetes or gestational diabetes, including medical history, glucose monitoring data, and current treatment regimens.
- Develop personalized diabetes management plans for pregnant patients, considering their unique needs, preferences, and gestational stage.
- Provide one-on-one counseling and education to pregnant women with diabetes on topics such as blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, nutrition, exercise, and fetal monitoring.
- Coordinate care with obstetricians, perinatologists, diabetes specialists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure integrated and multidisciplinary management of diabetes in pregnancy.
- Offer guidance and support to pregnant women in navigating the challenges of managing diabetes while pregnant, including medication adjustments, meal planning, and coping with fluctuations in blood glucose levels.
- Conduct group education sessions for pregnant women with diabetes or gestational diabetes, covering relevant topics related to pregnancy, diabetes management, and prenatal care.
- Monitor patients' glycemic control and pregnancy outcomes closely, adjusting management strategies as needed to optimize maternal and fetal health.
- Collaborate with certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care and support to pregnant women with diabetes.
- Educate pregnant women with diabetes on the potential risks and complications associated with uncontrolled diabetes during pregnancy and the importance of tight glycemic control for maternal and fetal well-being.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient assessments, education sessions, treatment plans, and outcomes in electronic medical records.
