Your Opportunity:
As a policy analyst you will provide full-time support to the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), Office of Defense Programs (NA-10). This includes executive level support to the Defense Programs front office and working closely with key functional offices with DOE/NNSA, the Department of Defense, and interagency organizations.
You’ll work daily in the DOE Forrestal Building in Washington, DC. Telework options may be available, based on client needs and volume of classified work.
What You Will Do:
- Research, draft, and review technical and programmatic briefings, applicable blogs, websites, and news wires, point papers, narratives, analysis, and other sources of a periodic and ad hoc nature relevant to national/international policy. Ensure that they are clear, complete, relevant, accurate, and thoroughly convey complex program and technical issues for use in the decision-making process.
- Communicate regularly with high-level officials within NNSA, the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State, other federal agencies, and relevant state and local government officials, private industry, and academia on programmatic issues of immediate interest.
- As part of a team, provide daily consultation/program management support for all nuclear weapons related policy issues
- Review/comment on formal inquiries from Congress, members of the National Security Council (NSC), NATO office constituents, senior primary offices of record, etc.
- Conduct (or offer recommendations on) global threat assessments - research/develop talking points, point papers, touch points, transcripts, in response to queries from Congress, NATO office constituents, etc.
- Provide strategic policy-related communications support to ensure consistent messaging for senior leaders and external stakeholders including developing responses to Congress, executive NNSA managers, stakeholders, and customers to solidify support.
- Maintain a consistent dialogue with the NNSA Office of Policy, NSC staff, and NWC support staff within Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (OASD)/Nuclear Matters.
What You Will Need:
- Master’s degree in political science, business, or other related field of study
- 4-5+ years of nuclear weapon policy, operations, intelligence/counterintelligence, or geo-political experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of national policy relevant to supporting Nuclear Weapons Council executive program activities (e.g., Interim National Security
- Guidance, Nuclear Posture Review, National Defense Strategy, National Security Strategy, etc.
- Knowledge of the Nuclear Weapons Council construct/organizational structure and process/procedures
- Basic knowledge of the Nuclear Weapons Council (its role in maintaining global nuclear deterrence, organization, and functional responsibilities) strongly preferred
- Proven task management experience including ability to track and prioritize multiple tasks
- Active DOE Q Security Clearance (preferred) or DoD Top Secret security clearance
- Ability to obtain SCI
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
