The Opportunity:
As Coordinator of the Detroit Unified Champion City Schools program, you’ll play an integral part in fulfilling the mission of Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI), utilizing sports, health, and athlete leadership to create a more inclusive world.
You will work with an amazingly talented, dedicated group of colleagues and community members to implement the 3 core components of Unified Champion Schools: Inclusive Student Leadership, Unified Sports, and Whole School Engagement. You will have a chance to inspire others to become involved and you will directly impact not only Detroit UCS Schools, but schools around the state.

What You’ll Do:
Build, structure and monitor all program outreach and strategic partnership development related to Unified Champion Schools and Unified Sports for all great levels.
Create and run Unified Sports events for the district and by working alongside district partners in athletics, physical education and special education including interscholastic league play, young athletes, district-wide sports events, campus and clinics.
Develop and maintain Unified Champion Schools budget and spending for the district in accordance with SOI/SOMI guidelines.
Implement Unified Sports programming across the district at all grade levels.
Create resources and training for educators and youth activation committees for schools.
Develop, coordinate and monitor all Special Olympics activities associated with community outreach and partnership development related to Unified Champion Schools and Unified Sports.
Ensure schools within Detroit Public Schools Community District are activating all components of Unified Champion Schools – Unified Sports, inclusive youth leadership and whole-school engagement.
Develop community partnerships with organizations outside of DPSCD to enhance programming for students and staff.
Oversee messaging and marketing efforts related to Unified Champion Schools, Unified Sports, and all other aspects of Special Olympics inclusive messaging.
Ensure the program is in compliance with all regulations, general rules and policy originating from SOMI, Inc., Special Olympics International and other 501 (c) 3 governing bodies and completes all reports related to UCS programming.
Facilitate the development & cultivation of relationships, funds, sponsors and in-kind resources.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may require attendance at events held in the evenings or on weekends.

- A bachelor's degree in education, recreation, or sports management/administration or a commensurate amount of experience combined with education.
- The ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job with or without accommodation.
- Working knowledge of administrative and organizational skills
- Knowledge and experience working with persons with intellectual and physical disabilities helpful.
- Ability to travel evenings and weekends.
- Computer knowledge in MS applications.
