Stepping Stones Children’s Center, nestled in the picturesque mountain community of Crested Butte, is seeking an Executive Director to spearhead our preschool's operations. The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management of Stepping Stones Children’s Center, including curriculum development, staff oversight, grant procurement, financial management, and regulatory compliance. We are seeking an adaptable, organized leader with exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate will be a visionary in early childhood education, dedicated to the success and growth of our center. While Director certification is advantageous, we welcome candidates with a strong background in business or project management who are willing to pursue certification.
About Stepping Stones Preschool
Stepping Stones Preschool is a nonprofit, childcare center situated in Crested Butte, CO. Accredited with a 4-star rating from Colorado Shines, our preschool serves children aged 12 weeks to 5 years, year-round. With five classrooms accommodating up to 60 children, our mission is to provide top-quality early education and care. Funding sources include tuition, state and local support, grants, fundraisers, and donations.
Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's or Associates degree in ECE, a Business Administrative degree, or a Child Development degree or a related fields is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum one year of experience managing five or more employees, overseeing budgets, and leading organizational operations. Previous center leadership is preferred.
- Certification: While not mandatory, State of Colorado Director certification and/or Early Childhood Credential level 3 or higher are preferred. Candidates without childcare experience must commit to obtaining Director certification within six months.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of state licensing regulations for childcare or willingness to become proficient.

- Demonstrated leadership skills or a positive, professional attitude in leadership roles.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to establish efficient staff structures to meet organizational goals.
- Experience in political representation and fundraising, particularly with grants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks online.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Maintain financial health using QuickBooks Online, including income and expense verification, bank deposits, and expense approval.
- Develop and manage annual budgets to meet financial and enrollment targets.
- Provide monthly financial updates to the board.
- Oversee tax obligations, insurance, and grant management.
Facility and Administrative Operations
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and licensing requirements.
- Interface with local licensing authorities and support organizations.
- Manage financial aid processes and enrollment records.
- Supervise daily operations, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Develop a capital improvement plan.
Parent Relations
- Maintain professionalism and tact in parent communications.
- Review and update parent documentation as needed.
- Address parental concerns and enforce guidelines.
Staff Management & Development
- Lead staff recruitment, training, and termination processes.
- Manage staff development and performance appraisals.
- Implement employee recognition initiatives.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings and facilitate substitutes when needed.
Community Relations
- Foster positive relationships with parents and local government.
- Collaborate with community organizations for support and subsidies.
- Engage with regional early childhood programs.
Board Relations
- Attend and prepare reports for monthly board meetings.
- Act as a liaison between the board and staff.
- Meet regularly with the Board Chair.

Pay
$55,000-$75,000 annual salary depending on experience
