Farcountry Press, an independent, family-owned book publisher, is seeking a Production Assistant to work in both the traditional and self-publishing divisions of the production department. This is a full-time in-house position in our Helena, MT office.
The ideal candidate will be:
- an excellent researcher, able to dig through photo archives to select historical photos for our books, track down missing information, create photo content lists for places they’ve never been, and scour social media and the internet for new talent;
- a competent proofreader, well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style and highly detail-oriented;
- a proficient communicator, able to guide and work with multiple authors and a team of freelancers
- a concise writer, able to write engaging captions based on photographer’s metadata and their research skills;
- a life-long learner, someone not afraid to ask questions and wanting exposure to different aspects of publishing;
- a strategic and creative thinker and problem solver;
- highly organized, efficient, and flexible;
- able to work independently and be a team player;
- a capable project manager;
- proficient in Microsoft Office apps and Adobe Acrobat, as well as familiar with Photoshop.
Additionally, we are looking for someone with a relevant bachelor’s degree, a can-do attitude, a passion for books, an eye for images, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, western U.S. history, geography, and major national parks is a plus.

This job is +90% desk-oriented and computer-focused. You will work cooperatively with both in-office and remote coworkers. We run at a fast pace and enjoy our work. Position is full-time; pay depends on experience.
