Description
Responsible level of field inspections and complaint work in securing and maintaining compliance with municipal ordinance and tall grass and noxious weed codes during the several month growth season.
Examples of Duties
This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Proactive inspection of residential and commercial properties for ordinance violations including tall grass and weeds.
- Provides written warnings to property owners.
- Schedules mowing contractors when warranted.
- Provides information and answers questions on ordinance violations.
- Appears and testifies in administrative court as needed, regarding lack of compliance with tall grass and weed codes.
Typical Qualifications
General Skill Levels:
Knowledge of:
- Regulations and laws relating to tall grass and noxious weed control.
- Modern office procedures, equipment and maintenance.
- The application of current computer and/or electronic systems, techniques and requirements being utilized for specific applications in the department.
- Methods and techniques used in recordkeeping systems.
- Officials, craftsmen, building owners, contractors and the general public.
Ability to:
- Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed departmental routines.
- Ability to undertake responsibilities of increasing variety with some initiative and judgment.
- Ability to handle confidential material on a routine basis in an atmosphere of loyalty and trust.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a complex nature.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical data orally and written.
- Ability to manage functions, resolve conflict and work harmoniously with Department Heads, officials, employees, outside professionals and the general public.
- Ability to accurately measure height of grass and identify noxious weeds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees.
Education/Experience:
- Required - High School Diploma or equivalent, or two years of experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to attain the desired knowledge, ability and skill.
Certificate or Licenses:
- Required - Possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in various types of weather, i.e. heat, cold, wind, rain, etc. Frequently moving from vehicle to outdoors and back. Candidate may lean and bend while using measuring devices and taking photos of ground level infractions.
